Introducing Basius, an Autonomous DeFAI Agent on Base

19-Jun-26

Basius is a new agent on Pearl, the "AI Agent App Store" powered by Olas. You fund it with stablecoins, and it's designed to put them to work in DeFi protocols on Base for you, providing liquidity on Aerodrome, the main decentralized exchange on Base. As a DeFAI agent, it handles the on-chain steps you would otherwise do by hand, autonomously, whilst ensuring you retain full self-custody.

Who is Basius for?

Providing liquidity on a decentralized exchange takes ongoing upkeep. It often means watching pools, shifting positions when the market moves, and paying gas every time you do. Basius is built for people who want to take part in Base DeFi without the hands-on part.

Why Base and Aerodrome?

Base network keeps fees low, and that matters for an agent that may move positions often: smaller fees mean more flexibility in position management. It also has a large, growing user base, and most of its stablecoin liquidity sits on Aerodrome, where Basius works.

Aerodrome is also easy for an autonomous agent to work with. Everything the agent weighs (how deep a pool is and what its gauge is paying) can be read straight from the chain, so it works from live data instead of a dashboard. It calls the contracts directly, with no human or UI in the loop, claims emissions as they're released on a predictable on-chain schedule, and exits and re-enters pools on its own as better opportunities appear. Aerodrome is becoming a home for on-chain agents on Base, and Basius is built to work there.

How does Basius work?

Basius effectively implements this loop:

First, it scans Aerodrome's pools, both the concentrated-liquidity kind and the simpler stable pools. It ranks them by yield, meaning how much each pool pays for providing liquidity, then weighs that against risk: how deep a pool's liquidity is and how much impermanent-loss risk it carries, screening out the ones that don't qualify. It allocates to the strongest options that clear the bar, and if nothing does, it stays put rather than forcing a position. It swaps or bridges assets through LiFi when needed, and claims the AERO rewards those pools accrue. A position changes when a clearly better option appears, rather than trading for its own sake.

Basius sticks to stablecoins: USDC, BOLD, msUSD, frxUSD, eUSD and axlUSDC. Pairing assets that are meant to track the same value aims to keep impermanent loss low, which is the main risk here. Still, it isn't risk-free: pool prices move, and even a stablecoin can drift from its peg. Basius is built to favor the lower-risk pools.

You set the goal

You're not locked into one setting. Initially, Basius comes with two presets, Balanced and Risky, that set how much risk it takes, and you can switch between them just by telling Basius in plain language, so you can pick the one that suits you. Over time, there could be additional configuration opportunities.

Is it self-custody?

Yes. Everything is owned by your Safe smart account; both the stablecoins you deposit and the positions Basius opens with them. Basius is designed to only act within the permissions you grant, and bring any proceeds back to your Safe. The agent runs locally through Pearl, on your own machine with your own keys, so this is not a deposit into someone else's vault. You decide when it runs, and you can withdraw when you choose.

Your Safe is recoverable: it can be restored with your Pearl password, recovery phrase, or backup owner, so access doesn't depend on the agent itself. And because every move happens on-chain, the agent's profile shows your portfolio and positions right on Pearl’s Agent Profile page whenever you want to look.
